Things about Viagra each man should keep in mind

The most popular drug for ED – Viagra – is covered with a mass of myths. Fiction is often difficult to distinguish from reality, if you do not have information about this famous drug.

The first thing you should know about Viagra is that the medicine is not an aphrodisiac. Viagra does not increase sexual desire. It only helps to improve the erection during sexual arousal. Viagra acts by dilating the blood vessels in the body, causing more blood in the heart, lungs and other organs. In addition, Viagra relaxes spasms of smooth muscles in the penis. About 70% of men who use Viagra report an improvement in their erection. The medicine begins to act 30 minutes after taking and its effect lasts about five hours. The blue pill is advised to take at least an hour before the alleged sexual intercourse.

History of Viagra: Has Viagra been discovered by chance?

The third major “accidental” discovery after penicillin and X-rays was the discovery of the first drug for ED in men, which was based on Sildenafil, which was later released under the patented name “Viagra”. Pioneers of penicillin and X-rays were awarded the Nobel Prize. The same high award in autumn 1998 was awarded to researchers who discovered the properties of Viagra.

The history of Viagra began in England, in the town of Pfizer in 1992. At this time, Pfizer conducted pharmacological studies and clinical trials of Sildenafil Citrate, a new drug substance. The purpose of these trials was to develop a new means with the help of which some heart diseases would be cured.

According to scientists, sildenafil was supposed to help people suffering from hypertension and angina pectoris. With its help, the flow of blood to the heart muscle should increase, and blood pressure will go down. However, as a result of the research it turned out that Viagra does not exert the expected effect on either blood pressure or blood circulation in the heart muscle. However, when the testing was over, most men who participated in the studies refused to return the sildenafil tablets to the scientists. Scientists, not understanding the reason for this, began to conduct a survey among these men. As a result of the survey, it was revealed that these men noticed that after taking the drug they improve the quality of the erection. It turned out that instead of inflow of blood to the heart muscle, sildenafil caused a very perceptible flow of blood to the male genitalia. The drug began to function about an hour after admission.

Employees of the pharmacological company Pfizer immediately realized what economic benefit this invention would be able to provide them with bring and this was the reason why they continued their studies. They saw in this preparation a strong remedy against erectile dysfunction.

Results of research proving Viagra effectiveness

On March 27, 1998, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the use of Viagra as a medicinal product. This happened only two years after its discovery, which is a very short period in the pharmaceutical industry. The inventors of Viagra are Peter Dan and Albert Wood.

The effectiveness of “Sildenafil” was tested on 3000 men of different countries of the world aged 19-87. Erectile dysfunction of these patients was observed from months to twenty-six years, and on average about five years. The impossibility of erection in them was caused due to psychological problems, and also because of common health problems.

As a result of a new study, it was proven that Sildenafil is an effective remedy for erectile dysfunction. In addition, the drug eliminates problems of a sexual nature, namely: in patients the number of successful sexual acts increased. Such results were obtained from people who participated in the experiment, who, apart from erectile dysfunction, had other health problems, and together with Viagra they took other medications.

Viagra instantly received great success. For the first year the amount received from the sale of tablets for men, which in pharmacies cost 8-10 dollars, amounted to more than a billion dollars.

In the US, more than 30 million men suffer from the symptoms of erectile dysfunction. More than 20 million American men are already taking these drugs, and the number of people taking these drugs is constantly increasing.

What kind of Viagra studies are conducted nowadays?

In New York there was a study in men with erectile dysfunction (ED), which showed that taking Viagra (sildenafil citrate) at a dose of 100 mg in about a third of cases after just 14 minutes leads to the appearance of an adequate erection sufficient for successful sexual intercourse.

“The speed of action is just one of the factors that must be considered when choosing a remedy to treat ED,” said the professor of urology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. “However, for patients and doctors it may be important that, according to published studies, no other oral drug for the treatment of ED did not exceed Viagra for the speed of onset of action.”

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 228 men with ED who were successfully used Viagra (100 mg) for at least 2 months were randomized. They were prescribed Viagra (100 mg) or placebo for 4 weeks. Patients enrolled in the study were aged an average of 60 years and suffered moderate or severe ED for an average of 7 years. More than half of the patients had an adequate erection, sufficient for intercourse, appeared within 20 minutes after taking Viagra. The tolerability of the drug was good. Nobody has stopped Viagra’s treatment due to side effects. It was discovered that ED is a health problem, which is found in 300% of men aged 18-45.

According to the recent studies, Viagra is able to have the impact on men’s fertility. Drugs for the treatment of impotence, such as Viagra, can affect reproductive functions. This conclusion was made by British researchers from Belfast who studied the effect of this drug on mice.

It turned out that in doses equivalent to human, Viagra reduces the likelihood of conception by 30 percent. At the same time, spermatozoa become more mobile, but they consume substances necessary for penetration into the ovum, even before meeting it.

Interesting facts about Viagra application

Another interesting effect, which caused a well-known drug for the treatment of erectile dysfunction – Viagra, was revealed by the scientists of the University of Standsford. It turned out that with the use of Viagra the endurance of the organism in high-altitude conditions increases. A number of tests were conducted on bikes, in which cycling athletes took part.

A few minutes before the arrival, ten athletes took a Viagra pill, the rest were given a placebo. The altitude of 3900 m above sea level, the six-kilometer distance and discharged oxygen became the conditions under which the tests were carried out. At the end of the tests, it turned out that four out of ten volunteers who took Viagra improved their results by 39% by coping with the distance much easier than usual. At that time, scientists were not ready to give an explanation of the reason why only four participants could improve their result, which, as it turned out, coped with the conditions of the highlands somewhat worse than the others. Viagra had no effect on athletes while riding at a height close to sea level. The appearance of erection in participants was also not observed.

By the way, the results produced by Viagra in high-altitude conditions did not become unexpected. Recently, Viagra has received approval as a medicine aimed at combating pulmonary hypertension, which can occur with a lack of oxygen. Vessels of the lungs narrow, which gives the heart an additional load. This cannot have an impact on sports achievements. Viagra also dilates blood vessels and the negative effect is simply leveled.
